How do you become the world’s go-to travel site when you’re competing with the world’s most powerful search algorithm?
Well, it’s the classic man vs. machine story. You know, the one where a group of people band together to defeat a cold, heartless computer?
This is the story about how 400 million travelers came together to prove that the best travel advice comes from a real person who has been there before.
From the traveler who wrote a 10,000 word review of Disneyland just to be helpful, to the local who gave a tiny tip for that tiny bar that you just happen to be standing by – Tripadvisor is proof that despite what you might think, people are good.
And in 2020, a time when we needed it most, we set out to restore people’s faith in one another by reminding them that There’s Good Out There.
Of course, if you believe that There’s Good Out There, you need to walk the talk. That’s why we gave Tripadvisor a new look that’s as optimistic as our point of view on the world.
Even in a pandemic when global travel ground to halt, we reminded people there’s still good out there with The Love Your Local initiative and our film #WhenThisIsOver that brought business boosting reviews and bookings to small businesses affected by COVID-19.
So what happened in the end?
Well, for now it’s a bit of a cliffhanger because this one’s far from over.
But this is a classic story.
And in those – man always conquers the machine.
